Russian star Aliya Mustafina, 2010 World all-around champion and two times Olympic champion on uneven bars, in 2012 and 2016, is back to her first major international competition since Rio Olympics. Mustafina, who gave birth last year, is the captain of the Russian team at Doha World Gymnastics Championships. She is the oldest and most experienced on this team, and serves as a role model for the rest of the girls.

Mustafina is well-known for doing things as she wishes, but this doesn't mean she is a selfish and arrogant athlete. After the podium training session, she said that her focus is on the team, which is true: she wasn't supposed to compete on floor, but after teammate Simakova injured herself, she had to compete on it in order to help Russia.

Irina Alexeeva, the new member of Russian women's national gymnastics team who used to train in the United States, said that mustafina "is such a leader, she'll tell everybody 'calm down, it's OK'. Sometimes we'll be doing routines and she'll just be talking about it. She knows we're young, but she has done it so many times".

Russia will be in action next Tuesday for Women's Team Final at Doha World Championships.
